This process allows us the best chance of achieving a great smile and a comfortable bite but sometimes good fitting dentures alone aren’t enough: If you are unfortunate enough to have receding gums then it may not be possible to achieve a tight enough fit or if you have a sensitive gag reflex then you may need an alternative solution that gives you added confidence and security. An implant retained overdenture is where implants are used to secure or support a denture that is clipped over them. This makes the denture much more stable than a traditional denture and can solve problems such as dentures dropping or chafing.

We always begin implant retained overdentures by making the very best dentures that we can achieve. The implants then are the icing on the cake to restore your mouth and give you the confidence you need to talk, eat and smile without having to think about your teeth.

Implant retained overdentures are particularly successful in the lower jaw where your bone is strong and dense. They are more difficult to provide in the upper jaw but this will depend upon your circumstances – how good the bone is and how happy a denture wearer you are.
